Background and Problem Statement<br>Uganda has one of the youngest populations in the world, with over 70% of the population under the age of 30. Despite this demographic advantage, youth unemployment and underemployment remain major challenges.<br>Many young people:<br>Lack practical, marketable skills<br>Drop out of school due to poverty<br>Cannot afford formal vocational training<br>Complete training but fail to secure employment<br>Lack tools and capital to start small enterprises<br>This has resulted in rising poverty, crime, dependency, and frustration among youth, especially in low-income urban and rural communities.<br>There is a critical need for affordable, practical, and employment-linked vocational training programs that directly connect youth to income opportunities.<br>2. Project Goal<br>To reduce youth unemployment and improve economic self-reliance among vulnerable young people in Uganda through practical welding and vocational skills training linked to job placement and entrepreneurship support.<br>3. Specific Objectives<br>1. To provide market-driven welding and vocational skills training to 100 unemployed youth within 12 months.<br>2. To equip trainees with entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills.<br>3. To facilitate job placement or self-employment for at least 70% of trained youth.<br>4. To establish partnerships with local companies and workshops for apprenticeship and employment opportunities.<br>4. Target Beneficiaries<br>Unemployed youth aged 18\u201335<br>School dropouts<br>Youth from low-income households<br>Vulnerable young women and men<br>Youth without formal vocational certification<br>Priority will be given to youth from disadvantaged communities.<br>5. Key Activities<br>1. Community Mobilization &amp; Selection<br>Outreach in target communities<br>Transparent selection of beneficiaries<br>2. Skills Training (3\u20136 Months)<br>Welding and metal fabrication<br>Construction basics<br>Electrical installation (basic level)<br>Workplace safety and professionalism<br>Training will be 80% practical and competency-based.<br>3. Entrepreneurship &amp; Financial Literacy Training<br>Business planning<br>Savings and record keeping<br>Customer service<br>Cooperative\/group enterprise models<br>4. Job Placement &amp; Linkages<br>Partnerships with construction firms<br><br>Apprenticeship placements<br>Industry exposure visits<br>Employer networking meetings<br>5. Startup Support<br>Toolkits for best-performing graduates<br>Group tool-sharing initiatives<br>Business mentorship<br>6. Expected Results<br>100 youth trained in marketable vocational skills<br>At least 70 youth employed or self-employed within 6 months of graduation<br><br>Increased income levels among beneficiaries<br>Reduced vulnerability and social risks among participating youth<br>Strengthened local workforce for construction and fabrication sectors<br>7. Sustainability Strategy<br>The project will adopt a social enterprise approach:<br>Income generation through production and sale of fabricated products (gates, doors, metal structures).<br>Partnerships with private sector companies for long-term employment pathways.<br>Gradual introduction of subsidized training fees for those who can afford.<br>Alumni network to mentor new trainees.<br>This blended model will reduce long-term donor dependency.<br><br>8. Monitoring and Evaluation<br>Baseline data collected at enrollment<br>Monthly training progress assessments<br>Attendance and skills competency tracking<br>Employment tracking at 3 and 6 months post-training<br>Final evaluation report documenting outcomes and lessons learned<br>9.
